I also made Castellan without even trying. I did farm for general when I needed to get it, and since then I have just taken bounties and did the quests. I have no idea when I got the rank though.

I noticed a couple days ago that my ranger could no longer obtain any Sunspear-based bounties and wondered why.
The devs have posted that the method they intended for people to reach Spearmarshall rank hasn't been implemented yet. The assumption at the moment is that it'll somehow tie in with the missing Elite mission they'll be implementing in a month or three.

According to wiki, it is theoretically possibly to get the last rank.
Yup, you have to go from General to Spearmarshall without zoning (since once you change zones as a Castellan you can no longer get the bonus).

Since there's obviously no area in the game that'll give you 7,500 Sunspear points just by clearing it normally, this means you have to fight enemies with resurrection spells - the high-end Undead, basically. Kill all but one Monk or Paragon, run back out of range, wait for them to res up, repeat.

...So not really worth the hassle. I'm willing to wait for the update, myself.

Nothing currently in the game requires a Sunspear rank higher than General, at 2,500.

FYI - Castellan is 7,500 and Spearmarshal is 15,000 and is max.

Turning this into a thread about reaching Spearmarshall:

The high-end undead are NOT well-covered on Wiki or elsewhere that I've found. What skills do they use? (Obviously, I'm trying to think of a farming build for them.)

Although, come to think of it, farming things defended by monks is usually frustrating if you don't want to kill the monk first ... hmm, some mesmer action in the heroes might be called for ...

Undead monks are smiters first, healers second, so you don't really need to dedicate much firepower to them.

I took out a couple of groups quickly just to check their skills, so here's what I saw. Not a comprehensive list, but I think I nabbed the important ones:

Monks: Signet of Judgment, Life Bond, Shield of Absorption, Scourge Healing, Renew Life
Giants: Quicksand, Choking Gas, Debilitating Shot, can drop Heads (mesmers)
Dervishes: Scythe attacks plus Vow of Silence
Paragons: We Will Return!, Signet of Return
Warriors: Distracting Blow, For Great Justice!, Soldier's Strike
Eles: Enervating Charge, Gale, Glowstone, Obsidian Flesh
Necros: Vocal Minority, Well of Darkness, Parasitic Bond, Faintheartedness
Mesmers: Signet of Humility, Cry of Frustration, Ignorance

...So multiple anti-spell-targeting measures, you'll note. Also a couple of knockdowns, but the only real melee hate is Well of Darkness/Enervating Charge.

The only thing you'll really need to take worry about is that Quicksand. Giants keep the spirit up at all times, and it's a pain in the neck.
